The English noun people (singular "person") refers to a plurality of human beings. It has two usages:

Because the word people often refers to abstract and general types of groups, the word persons is sometimes used in place of people, especially when it would be ambiguous with its collective sense (e.g. missing persons instead of people). It can collectively refer to all humans or it can be used to identify a certain ethnic or religious group. For example, "people of color" is a phrase used in North America to describe non-whites.

Why are there evil people in the world? What causes people to commit evil crimes?
Q. I am writing a journalism piece for my high school newspaper and want to see what people around the world think of criminals who kill for no reason, people who rape for no reason, and people who abuse their children for no reason. What causes these people to hurt others?

A. Well.. each one differs from the other, who doesn't agree at this?! No one. But what makes them different, as in good and bad? This is what you're probably looking at for your journal, except you're referencing to 'evil in human'. Philosophy and Theology once had a debate about the cause of evil in the world like hypothesizing whether it s a metaphysical nature (which competes with goodness) or because of the free will of humankind; simply free will vs. determinism. Many religious beliefs also state that it s because of a devil and his fault; uhh.. Hellooo, is it God s fault then for creating the devil?! All these kinds of debates are boundless, and are based on opinions, like that s what philosophy is, ri? But think about this … [cont.]

How long do people usually have carpet before it wears out and needs to be replaced?
Q. I am curious about how often people usually keep their carpeting in their house. I know some people keep their carpet until it has a few stains and some people keep their carpet until it has spots all over, 'traffic lines', etc. How long do people usually keep their carpet before they replace it? How many years would you figure?

A. It is 5 to 7 years for cheep carpet and 10 to 20 for quality carpet. however if you can afford the quality carpet your probably changing it anytime you want.

Why do some people need more social interaction than others?
Q. Some people can have very low amounts of interaction with other people, and still feel comfortable around them. On the other hand, some people need to be in constant/moderate interaction to be comfortable around people.

A. Check out either "Please Understand Me" or the Meyers Briggs work on personality. (Books or online) Extroverts are those who replenish themselves by being with others, love parties, drop in friends etc. Introverts recharge by alone time. They need to have personal space, few intrusions and usually hate parties, chit chat, and have maybe one or two best friends. They prefer serious discussions about ideas, concepts etc. To most extroverts, a stranger is just a friend they haven't met yet. "Please Understand Me II" breaks things down into 16 combinations and what professions are good matches for each one. They seem pretty accurate to me.

  • A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it.
  • Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home.
    • Glen Bateman, The Stand (C&U), 3rd paragraph of Chapter 42, by Stephen King
  • I judge people by what they might be,—not are, nor will be.
  • The people will live on. The learning and blundering people will live on.
    • Carl Sandburg (1878–1967), American poet. The People, Yes (1936)
