How do I retrieve Yaho Chat archives mistakenly deleted?
Q. Another uses deleted my Yahoo Chat archives. I need some of them for legal purposes. How do I get them back?

A. Yahoo Messenger stores them as .dat files on your harddrive, usually in "C\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Pr ofiles". To read any old messages, you normally click on a user's ID to read them, but after vivisiting several forums I found this handy little freeware tool: which lets you open your messenger .dat files without entering your YIM account. Note: Yahoo does not keep backups of those files on their server, so please check if you still can find it on C drive or in the trash bin of your harddrive. If not, you could try a system restore prior to the date of the accidental deletion.

Where are my yahoo chat archives?
Q. I'm using Windows Visa and Firefox. Someone sent me a chat I really really need to find, but I can't figure out how to get to my archives! How can I search Yahoo Instant Messenger chat archives?
Q. We use this at work and it would help a great deal if I could search all past messages with a certain (or all) friend/buddy/contact. I'm already archiving messages but my problem is that I need to be able to search them. My IM logs are too long to browse "by hand".

A. I've never heard of this. But I can tell you what to do. Delete messages you don't need anymore. Maybe you have too many. That might just bring it up. OR try this: when the message archive opens and you click on the little icon that says "messages" on the far left, there you will see the list of the names of people you chat with. Click on the name and check the dates..are they descending. If they are, double click on the bar on top and it should reverse to ascend. or vice verse.

Q. Using a borrowed PC for a couple of weeks, I noticed when I returned to my own PC, the archive of chats I had on the borrowed PC didn't appear on my machine. This leaves me with a twofold problem. Will deleting Yahoo Messenger on the borrowed PC, DELETE completely the archive of chats I had on that PC? If not, where will I find the folder of chats archive? Are there any utilities or anything that allow you to edit this? I know the files are on the hard drive, but you can't just edit them with a standard text editor link is dead.
