Television (TV) is a widely used telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images, either monochromatic ("black and white") or color, usually accompanied by sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming or television transmission. The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far sight": Greek tele (τῆλε), far, and Latin visio, sight (from video, vis- to see, or to view in the first person). Commercially available since the late 1930s, the television set has become common in homes, businesses and institutions, particularly as a source of entertainment and news. Since the 1970s the availability of video cassettes, laserdiscs, DVDs and now Blu-ray Discs, have resulted in the television set frequently being used for viewing recorded as well as broadcast material. Although other forms such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) are in use, the most common usage of the medium is for broadcast television, which was modeled on the existing radio broadcasting systems developed in the 1920s, and uses high-powered radio-frequency transmitters to broadcast the television signal to individual TV receivers. Broadcast TV is typically disseminated via radio transmissions on designated channels in the 54–890 megahertz frequency band. Signals are now often transmitted with stereo and/or surround sound in many countries. Until the 2000s broadcast TV programs were generally recorded and transmitted as an analog signal, but in recent years public and commercial broadcasters have been progressively introducing digital television broadcasting technology. A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits, including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals. A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a monitor, rather than a television. A television system may use different technical standards such as digital television (DTV) and high-definition television (HDTV). Television systems are also used for surveillance, industrial process control, and guiding of weapons, in places where direct observation is difficult or dangerous. Amateur television (ham TV or ATV) is also used for experimentation, pleasure and public service events by amateur radio operators. Ham TV stations were on the air in many cities before commercial TV stations came on the air. From Wikipedia under the

Q. My television, which has integrated digital, keeps breaking up or freezing, what is the problem. Is it a problem with the television or the aerial? Asked by party girl pauline - Thu Jun 14 15:12:50 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ok if you've got intergrated digital and the picture is breaking up freezing , like little mozaic tiles all over the screen its the aerial signal going into the tv ... nothing else. If its only started happening the last couple of days its probably the weather. Take the aerial out of the set , or it may be going to a dvd recorder or video recorder first take the aerial out and hit the end onto your hand , make sure theres no water coming out of the end. You can also unscrew the end carefully and make sure its all secure. none of the meshy copper must be touching the copper inner core of the aerial lead. If the probablem keeps happening try getting a cheap aerial booster from argos or woolworths.. good luck Answered by tv installer - Fri Jun 15 19:29:58 2007 How Much Time Do Television Actors Have To Memorize Their Lines?
Q. As a begining actor, I am interested in knowing how much time Television actors have to memorize their before they appear camera whether it a one hour drama, thirty minute comedy, or a commercial. Can anyone please help? Thank you. Asked by Jowe - Thu Sep 13 17:24:02 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. It sooo depends. Yes, you generally get a script 2 weeks in advance but a lot of times things are rewritten anyway and the morning of the day you are shooting you get another set of colored pages and things have changed so how much time do you get? I'd say 2 hours - 2 weeks :-) If you're on contract yes you may get the help of a prompter or a cue card person but it's best just to memorize. Plus you can hide your script in a prop for peeks between takes. For instance if you're sitting on a couch, your script can be behind the cushion. If your standing by something with a drawer, it may be in the drawer. answer your question?
