How can I transfer my Yahoo Messenger archives to my new Macbook?
Q. I have a lot of important conversations in my Yahoo archives that I don't want to lose when I switch computers, from a PC to a Mac. Is there any way (other than saving them all as text files) to transfer them?

A. There's no direct method of doing this, not like importing Address Books or anything like that, anyway. Other than finding your archives and copying them into a folder, then doing something to that folder, I can't imagine how you would do it. Here are the most comprehensive pages on Messenger that I could ever find, maybe you'll find something here: Good luck...

What is the best digital camera for taking pictures of documents in archives?
Q. I am going to Africa to take pictures of documents in archives. The materials are not in good shape and the archive is poorly lit with flourescent lights. I've heard that some digital cameras have a feature that is especially useful for taking black and white pictures (although these would be primarily ivory/beige and black). Has anyone heard of that or could you give me suggestions of brands, models that would best do the job? Any resources out there especially for people working in archives? Thank you.

A. I'm just writing in support of Joff's suggestion for the D70s and 18-70 lens, as long as it is the "better" Nikkor AF-S 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G ED DX lens. If you want to save a bit of money, the D50 would also be quite up to the task, as the MP resolution is the same. If you are spending grant money (haha), go upscale a bit to the D80 or even the D200, as the additional resolution (10 MP vs. 6 MP) could prove valuable for the details. All of these cameras have a white balance setting for fluorescent lights and all three let you set a custom white balance, if the pre-set is not exactly correct. You might consider the Nikon 60 mm Macro lens, also called "Micro" at some sites. It opens up just a bit more to f/2.8, which may be helpful in poor… [cont.]

Do you lose your message archives when you update to a newer version of Yahoo Messenger?
Q. If you do, is there any way of maintaining the old archives when you update to a newer version of YM? Thanks!
Asked by Mike - Wed Nov 11 02:46:36 2009 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. You should not lose your Archives or Contacts when you update Yahoo Messenger However I have read here that some people lost theirs As a precaution you could save your 'Profile' file to a CD prior to uninstalling and paste it it back if they disappear when you update.

Is there a software that can store all my yahoo messenger archives even when i'm logging to other computers?
Q. When i'm logging in to my yahoo messenger to the other computers, i checked my archives but couldn't find my history messages in my own computer here at home. I know recent archives are only stored in the computer that you use presently. But is there a software i can download here at home, that can store all my yahoo archives even when i'm logging in to the other computers?
Asked by ryza - Sat Aug 15 02:43:10 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on how you want to use them - its possible to store them on a flashdrive and take them with you. The problem comes when you want to read them as they are encrypted in dat format and you need a decoder. So you would have to plug in the flash drive and copy that persons chat to the Messenger Archives on the new computer. If you wanted to convert to plain text format you could put individual chats into a file and email the attachment to yourself or again on a flash drive

A. I doubt if you would find records going back that far on the web. The newspaper itself will probably have those records on microfiche, but you would have to go there to look at their archives.

How do I retrieve archives in yahoo messenger vista?
Q. I can not find anywhere to set up the archive or retrieve archives in the Messenger Vista preferences. It seems that Messenger Vista has lost most of the functions that the previous versions had. Can someone please help me understand vista version and retrieve the messages from my contacts?
Asked by ds51269 - Wed Jan 23 19:37:36 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yahoo vista is a beta, there is no history, sound, cam etc. You can still run the old one you had installed because the beta doesn't replace it (but your not going to be able to retrieve any messages that you received in vista version). They will add more features in the next beta release.

Q. I can't seem to get into the AJC (Atlanta Journal & Constitution) obituaries archives for the year of 1971, can any one tell me how I can do this?
Asked by jack rabbit - Sat Mar 24 01:13:30 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You need to go to one of the larger branches of the Public Library in Atlanta or else go to the offices of the Atlanta Journal & Constitution to request the obituaries you need. You might try calling or sending email to ask if they can research and send you copies of the listings you want. *** important *** The following link is specifically for Obit help for the AJC.

A. The New York Times on-line archive goes back a while. Nonetheless, you'll only get a part of the story. So either you'll have to pay to see the whole story or you could go to your local library and read the NYT on microfilm.

A. try www.loc.gov It's the Library of Congress, and they have everything about everything there. Photos, maps, oral histories, original documents. Once you get there, you'll have to search around for what you specifically want, but it's pretty easy to navigate. The only problem is, it leads you from one interesting thing to another and, if you're not careful, you can get caught up in all the research and spend all day there.

A. Uncompressed it and recompress it. You can't just enter the password and have it removed. Winrar uses very strong encryption of all the file data. If you really just want to keep the password around what i do is rename the file e.g stored.rar to stored(password).rar

A. does he have physical access to the computer that was used to send these messages? If so, you will also have to access that computer and delete c:\documents and settings\accountname_you_ used_on_that_computer because all IM programs store their logs somewhere below that. Note that that folder also contains any favorites and documents you created when working on that computer. It's not really hacking, he's just reading the XML log files.

Does Yahoo messenger delete all old message archives or is there a way to find old conversations?
Q. I have found the place that says "message archives" but it is empty. I know of conversations in the past that I need to find somewhere but I don't know where. Any help?
Asked by boredatwork - Tue Mar 7 09:19:21 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yahoo doesnt archive anything, only your computer does. If you turn on Message Archiving you actually have 2 different choices. One is to archive, but delete everytime you logout. The other is to archive always. The Archive always option will never delete your old messages, unless you delete them yourself. Once an Archive is deleted (Whether by you, or by your computer when you logout), it is gone forever. There is no way of retrieving it.
